Leeds coach Tony Smith is urging Great Britain coach Brian Noble to look again at Matt Diskin for the Tri-Nations. The uncapped hooker, Leeds' player of the year, has been named in the 2004 Tetley's Super League Dream Team.
But he has not made Noble's initial 40-strong squad for the end-of-season clashes with Australia and New Zealand.
"I'm sure that 40 could change," said Smith. "You have to pick the in-form players - that's what the Australians have done over the years."
Diskin is currently behind Keiron Cunningham (St Helens) and Terry Newton (Wigan) in the pecking order.
But he has a great chance to impress the selectors on Saturday when Leeds take on Noble's team Bradford Bulls in the Super League qualifying semi-final at Headingley.
"It's an opportunity to perform well in front of the Great Britain coach and that won't do any of the players any harm," Smith added.
But Diskin said: "The internationals are not really a concern for me at the moment - my full focus is on Leeds and the game against Bradford."
