Scotland have been eliminated from the World Women's Curling Championship in South Korea after defeat to Denmark.

Eve Muirhead's rink needed to beat the Danes and hope for a Norwegian victory against Sweden but neither happened.

The Scots went down 6-2 to Denmark to finish with a 5-6 record while Sweden thrashed Norway 11-2.

Muirhead, the three-time world junior champion skip, said: "There's definitely a difference between women's and juniors; it's quite a big step up."

Muirhead's rink won their first two games in Gangneung to serve early notice.

But they lost their next two games, 4-3 to China on Tuesday evening and 7-6 on Wednesday to Germany.

Scotland's tiebreaker hopes were kept alive with a 7-6 win over Debbie McCormick of the United States but the loss to Denmark finally confirmed their exit from the tournament.

On a more positive note, the points Muirhead's rink earned on their fine run confirmed Great Britain's place in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games.
