Murdoch was beaten by the Swiss in last year's final |
Scotland's men ended Norway's unbeaten run to win gold at the European Curling Championships in Fussen, Germany. David Murdoch's rink went one better than last season's silver in Basel despite having just scraped into the semi-finals via a play-off.
"It's a good day for Scotland,"said Murdoch, the former European and World champion winning 6-3 against a team they lost to in the round-robin.
"Silver for the ladies plus a gold here and it's not a bad day at all."
The Scots avenged a narrow defeat in the round-robin, Murdoch having missed an open target with the final stone to allow Norway a 7-6 win.
This time it was Thomas Ulsrud's young team who struggled with early nerves.
Ulsrud's rink, who had won all nine of their round-robin games, went one ahead after the first end.
But Murdoch struck back with a double in the third end and, although Norway levelled in the fifth, the Scots were never headed again.
An Ulsrud miss opened the door for a free Scottish draw for two and a 4-2 lead after six ends and the Scots remained in front for the rest of the match.
