Rienda Contreras still faces further tests this week |
Spain's top alpine skier Maria Jose Rienda Contreras is likely to miss the entire season after suffering a serious knee injury in training. Rienda Contreras, 31, was a favourite in giant slalom this season, both in the World Cup and World Championships.
An initial diagnosis suggested the Spaniard had torn ligaments and a meniscus in her right knee and would be out for six months.
She is scheduled to undergo further tests this week.
Rienda Contreras, who finished second to Swede Anja Paerson in the overall standings last season, was preparing for this weekend's World Cup races in Aspen, Colorado, before her injury in a fall during training.
