Rahlves won a shortened race |
Daron Rahlves pipped fellow American and overall World Cup champion Bode Miller to victory in a men's downhill race at Beaver Creek, Colorado. Rahlves clocked one minute 13.37 seconds in an event that was stopped several times due to poor visibility.
Miller took second position in a time of 1:13.64 and Austria's Hans Grugger finished third in 1:13.71.
Skiers had to contend with falling snow and fog, forcing organisers to move the start 1,000 feet down the course.
"To come out here and own this hill and to have a lot of people to share it with, it makes it that much more special," said Rahlves, who has now won seven World Cup downhill races in his career.
"It's wonderful to win on your home turf."
Britain's Finlay Mickel finished 43rd, almost three seconds off the pace.
