Svindal was the pick of the Super-G runners in the season opener |
Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal got his season off to the perfect start by winning the first Super-G of the men's World Cup season. Svindal could only muster sixth place in the first downhill of the season in Lake Louise on Saturday.
But he fared better on Sunday, clocking a time of one minute 26.04 seconds.
Austrian Benjamin Raich finished in second, seven-hundredths-of-a-second behind, while America's Daron Rahlves took the final podium place.
"My skiing has been going very well for a long while," said Svindal. "The good thing when you ski all four is that you have more possibilites for a good result."
Two of the pre-race favourites, World Cup champion Bode Miller and Austria's Hermann Maier finished well down the order.
Miller was 18th after almost crashing halfway down the course, while Maier finished 21st having almost skied off course.
