Reichelt benefited from hitting the Beaver Creek run early on |
Hannes Reichelt claimed his first Super-G World Cup victory despite the poor conditions in Colorado. The 25-year-old Austrian avoided the heavy snow and winds which affected the late runners to win in a time of one minute 17.33 seconds.
Canada's Erik Guay took second while Austrian Matthias Lanzinger earned his first podium place in third.
Norway's Aksel Lind Svindal, who won last weekend's season opener, finished fourth but retained his overall lead.
The 22-year-old, who leads both the Super-G and overall World Cup standings, came home in 1:18.00.
The difficult conditions hit many of favourites, including reigning overall champion Bode Miller, who did not finish the race.
"The conditions weren't just tough they were stormy," said Reichelt.
"Coming out of the start hut I could see the first gate but not the second. I just had to put my heart in my hand and go."
