Deng was rated the second-best US high school player last year |
Britain's Luol Deng will enter the draft for the National Basketball Association on 25 June. The 19-year-old Londoner, who starred for Duke University, will try out in the draft but has not ruled out a return at college level.
"To put his name in there would evaluate where he would go," his father Aldo Deng told the Raleigh News and Observer newspaper.
"If he is top five he would have to decide whether to stay in."
Deng was born in Sudan but grew up in London before moving to the States to attend high school.
He was selected to play for England's under-15 national team at the age of 13 and contributed greatly to that team's success in Europe. As a freshman Deng helped Duke reach the NCAA semi-finals where they lost to eventual champions Connecticut.
But Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski was fully behind his decision to leave early.
"We're supportive of Luol's decision," Krzyzewski said. "Based on our information, it is apparent that he will be a high pick in this year's NBA draft.
"We will thoroughly examine any available information and utilize our resources here at Duke to help Luol make a decision that is best for him and his family."
