Kobe Bryant scored 33 points, including a desperation three-pointer to hand Los Angeles Lakers a series-tying 99-91 victory over Detroit in game two of the NBA finals.

The heavily-favoured Lakers rebounded from a stunning defeat in the opening game as they seek their fourth NBA title in five years.

The Lakers outscored the Pistons 44-36 in the first half, before squandering an 11 point lead in the third quarter.

No team has ever lost the first two games at home and gone on to win an NBA title.

And Ben Wallace looked like he had sealed a 2-0 lead for Detroit by grabbing a rebound and dunking the ball with 47.8 seconds remaining.

But Bryant sent the game into overtime by connecting with a 28-foot shot with 2.1 seconds remaining to tie it 89-89.

The Lakers outscored the visitors 10-2 in overtime to prevent them from pulling off another stunner.
