Double British breaststroke champion Achieng Ajulu-Bushell has opted to move from Plymouth to London as she steps up her preparation for the 2012 Olympics.

The 16-year-old, who has changed her nationality from Kenyan, will swim for Ealing to be closer to her family.

She said: "I developed as a swimmer in Plymouth but I'm looking forward to a new club as I prepare for 2012."

Ajulu-Bushell makes her senior British debut at the European Championships in Budapest next week.

Ajulu-Bushell, who won the national 50m and 100m breaststroke titles in March, was born in Warrington, moved to Kenya when she was four and attended Peponi House School in Nairobi.

Her politics professor father Rok Ajulu met her mother Helen, a lecturer in international development, when they worked together at Leeds University.

She moved back to Britain aged 13 and has continued her education at Plymouth College since September 2007.

Ajulu-Bushell will work under Dave Heathcock at Gurnell Leisure Centre and is set to start her A-levels at Notting Hill and Ealing High School next month.

She represented Kenya at last year's World Championships before deciding to switch nationality and the International Olympic Committee has ruled she can represent her adopted country at the London Games.
