Lincoln swimmers Lizzie Simmonds and Kate Haywood have been selected for the Great Britain team for the European Championships in Budapest in August.

Simmonds, 19, won the 100m and 200m backstroke at the British championships in Sheffield in April while Haywood was runner-up in the 100m breaststroke.

Simmonds said: "I'm really excited about going to Budapest this summer.

"My main goal is the Commonwealth Games this year but I'll go to the European championships and be giving my all."

Simmonds and Haywood were part of Great Britain's gold medal-winning medley relay team in the 2008 championships in Holland.
