Indergaard is making good progress ahead of the 2008 Olympics |
Tandi Indergaard became the first British woman to make a World Championship three-metre final since 1973 in Montreal on Friday. The Leeds diver eventually finished in 11th place with 494.67 points.
"She's our first finalist for over 30 years and she looked like she belonged
there," said GB coach Adie Hinchliffe.
Gold went to Guo Jingjing of China with 645.54, with team-mate Wu Min Xia taking silver in 619.05. Bronze went to Italian Tania Cognotto with 591.27.
Hinchliffe added: "Making top 12 in the world, three years out from the Beijing Olympics, is exactly where we wanted to be and Tandi did a great job, in difficult circumstances, to make it happen.
"Tandi's dives were steady throughout and you need that consistency at this level of competition."
American diver Chelsea Davis, who hit the board face first during the preliminary round of the three-metre springboard event, could yet take further part in the World Championships.
The 17-year-old, who tumbled into the pool with blood streaming from her face, was released from hospital on Friday after having stitches in the bridge of her nose.
She is now deciding whether to compete in the three-metre synchronised event on Sunday.
"The issue will be how the swelling and pain are on Saturday," said US diving team leader Robert Rudze. "Mentally she wants to dive. It's going to be more of a physical thing."
