Perry won her third successive Irish Open title earlier this year |
Madeline Perry showed that she has recovered well after two months out of the game by retaining her Irish National Squash title in Dublin. Perry was out of action for two months after being the victim of a violent mugging while at a tournament in Italy.
The Banbridge woman defeated Aisling Blake 9-0 9-7 7-9 9-4 in Sunday's final at the Fitzwilliam Club.
Top seed Liam Kenny retained his men's title after a struggling John Rooney retired in the third game.
Kenny had won the opening two games 11-8 11-4 and was 6-1 ahead in the third when Rooney called a halt.
Rooney picked up a bug after impressing at the recent World Championships in India and he was clearly struggling, the longer the match went on.
However, Perry's successful return to action was the major story of the championships.
"It's great to be back on the court after the difficult last two months and I am looking forward to returning to the tour and also returning here next year," said the Banbridge woman.
Perry was the victim of the attack in October just prior to the World Championships, where she would have been in the top 10 seeds.
Her temporal bone in her skull was broken and she also suffered bleeding and bruising to the brain.
Perry won her third successive Irish Open title earlier this year and she was eighth in the world rankings at the time of the attack.
