Perry retains Irish championship

Madeline Perry has held on to her Irish Open trophy
Madeline Perry from Banbridge has retained the women's Irish Open title with victory over Laura Lengthorn in Dublin on Sunday.

Two weeks after reaching the quarter-finals at the Commonwealth Games, world number nine Perry beat her English opponent 9-7 9-3 9-4.

Perry made a slow start, trailing 7-4 in the first game.

But she got back to 7-7 and went on to repeat her 2005 ournament triumph without dropping a game.

In the semi-finals number one seed Perry had beaten Isabelle Stoehr of France 9-2 9-1 9-1.

World number 13 Lengthorn saw off Dutch player Annelize Naude in five games.

Fourth seed Borja Golan from Spain beat Davide Bianchetti in the men's final.
