Tom Ford inspired by fellow Leicester ace Mark Selby

Tom Ford
I took the wrong path when I was 18, started going out too much... I've knuckled down

Tom Ford

Tom Ford says fellow Leicester cueman Mark Selby provided the inspiration for his win over Judd Trump in the final World Championship qualifying round.

Ford, 26, became the first debutant to qualify for this year's showpiece event at the Crucible in Sheffield.

"I see Mark on TV a lot of the time and it does wind me up because I know I should be trying to do the same thing," Ford said after his 10-3 success.

"That's why I've knuckled down this year. Mark is very dedicated."

Ford added: "He doesn't drink that much, so we're not on the same wavelength there.

"I took the wrong path when I was 18, started going out too much, whereas he knuckled down himself and he's done what he's done because he had the dedication."
