LV= COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP, DIVISION TWO, Grace Road: Close, day one: Leicestershire 231-9 v Glamorgan Glam 3pts, Leics 1pt Match scorecard
Veteran Claude Henderson came to Leicestershire's rescue on the opening day of their match with Glamorgan. Dean Cosker (4-41) and Graeme Wagg (2-78) had helped bowl Glamorgan into a strong position with the hosts struggling on 88-4 and 192-9. But the 38-year-old's unbeaten 74, including 10 boundaries, saw the home side to 231-9 at stumps. On a day when scoring was difficult, his only real support came from James Taylor (45). Henderson, in his testimonial season, scored his first Championship half-century since September 2009 in front of a bigger than average first-day crowd. Meanwhile, Cosker's four wickets all came in an unbroken spell of 23 overs as he caused all manner of problems to the Leicestershire middle-order.
BBC Wales cricket correspondent Edward Bevan: "After winning the toss in perfect conditions and on an easy paced pitch, you would expect a side to post a total in excess of 300. "But Glamorgan's bowlers did well to restrict Leicestershire to 231-9 and a rate of just two runs an over. "None did better than Dean Cosker, who took 4-41 from 30 overs and conceded just four boundaries. "The Leicestershire all-rounder Claude Henderson struck 74 not out. "He enabled his side to gain a batting point and rescued them from 156-8 to reach a respectable, if not commanding score, at the close of day one."
