Holt embraces new tournaments

Nottingham snooker player Michael Holt has welcomed the arrival of the sport's new Pro Challenge Series.

Seven new tournaments will be played next season, four of the events will be over the standard 15 reds, while three will use the new Super Sixes format.

"It's what all of us professionals want, to play competitive matches with the chance to earn prize money.

"It will help keep us sharp in between ranking events." Holt said.

He added: "Any chance to play more snooker is a good thing."

The series is open to all 96 players on the professional snooker circuit, and begins in Leeds on the 28 July.

The Super Sixes format of the game, used as a "quick-fire" alternative to the usual 15-red game, was first trialled at the latest World Snooker Championship.
