Wagh's 131 runs helped Notts arrest an early slide

Mark Wagh smashed 131 runs to seize control for Notts against Lancashire on day three at Trent Bridge.

Wagh, who made 141 in partnership with David Hussey (74) helped guide Notts to 289-7 declared and a lead of 392 going into Lancs' second innings.

They then made headway in the first few overs, claiming the wicket of Paul Horton as Lancs ended the day on 22-1.

Earlier Lancs had made just 49 runs as they slipped to 285 all out in their first innings.

Mal Loy's 84 ensured Lancashire began the day on 237-6 with Glen Chapple and Luke Sutton at the crease, but Sutton was to add just nine more runs, making it to 34 before Notts bowler Ryan Sidebottom claimed his wicket, wicket-keeper Chris Read taking the ball behind.

Chapple fared better, making his half-century before he too fell to Sidebottom on 55, the England swing bowler's second wicket of the match.

With the tail exposed, veteran slow bowler Mark Ealham took full advantage to see off Oliver Newby (4) and Gary Keedy for a duck, ending Lancashire's resistance.

Notts went into the second innings with a lead of 103, but suffered a set-back early on when Jefferson went for just two runs from Newby's bowling to leave the score at 11-1.

Bilal Shafayat made 30 in 64 balls before Keedy gained his first wicket, and then England reject Samit Patel was dismissed for just one run, Kyle Hogg trapping him lbw.

Wagh's pacy 136 from just 177 balls included 11 fours and three sixes, and in tandem with Hussey's 74 demoralised the Lancashire batsmen before Hussey's dismissal.

Keedy, Chapple and Newby all took two wickets for Lancashire apiece, and following Brown's removal on seven, skipper Chris Read faced just seven balls before a declaration came with Notts 392 ahead.

Nottinghamshire batsman Mark Wagh told BBC Radio Nottingham:

"The forecast seems to change by the hour so hopefully, with a bit of luck we'll be okay tomorrow.

"It's a real privilege to bat with Huss [David Hussey], there aren't that many players in the world who strike it as well as he does.

"I was really hoping that at some stage during his little spell over here I would get the chance to bat with him again, it's just an absolute privilege to be at the other end when he's striking it like that."

Lancashire bowler Gary Keedy told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"We've got to get in tomorrow, get a partnership going if we can, get some runs on the board and go on from there.

"Both players [Wagh and Hussey] batted with intent on scoring, they were aggressive in everything they did.

"We have struggled to pick up batting points but we're not in the first innings any more, we're out there to try and win a game."
