| Saturday, 14 December, 2002, 17:17 GMT Williams destroys Ebdon ![]() Ebdon and Williams are very closely matched A sparkling display by Mark Williams saw him polish off world champion Peter Ebdon and march into Sunday's final. Ebdon, renowned as a gritty competitor, simply had no answer to the Welshman once he began firing on all cylinders. Williams had taken the last two frames of the afternoon to lead 5-3 and moved further ahead with impressive breaks of 102 and 74 when play resumed. The 11th frame also went Williams' way and he sealed his progress in the next after an Ebdon in-off let him in again.
The Welshman said: "I felt good before we started - if you can't get yourself up for playing the world champion then there is something wrong. "The first session was quite good but in the second I played fantastic. I just blew him away really. "Peter didn't have many chances the way I played in those last four frames - I felt good and was really flying."
He said: "Mark played exceptionally well. When someone potts balls of the calibre he did then there is not a lot you can do about it. "I didn't think the scoreline reflected how well I did in the match, especially early on - I did not do much wrong in the first session. "But all credit to him. He potted an incredible amount of world-class balls." |
