Grint is hoping the crew will finish the race in under 40 days |
Cornish rower Sally Grint is hoping to set a new world record by crossing the Atlantic as part of the first women's-six crew to do so. Grint was a late selection for the Woodvale Atlantic rowing team, who will compete in the Allum Cup in January. The team will race 2,600 miles from the Canary Islands to Barbados. Grint told BBC Radio Cornwall: "When I was asked I didn't hesitate and I said yes straight away as it's something I've always wanted to do." Grint's late inclusion in the Woodvale crew came after one of the other rowers dropped out. She said: "The over riding feeling was that I couldn't let the other team members down. "I had been preparing to row around Britain in 2012, so I've actually been preparing for a really long row in my head - it's just come a year earlier than expected." If the Woodvale crew successfully complete the race, they will be the first women's six to do so, setting a world record in the process. The crew are aiming to complete the race in under 40 days by rowing four hours on and four hours off throughout.
