Vernon won a silver medal at the 2008 Olympics |
Cornish rower Annabel Vernon has said she cannot wait to return to race action with the British squad. The 27-year-old has been selected for both the double scull and quadruple scull at the year's opening World Cup event in Slovenia at the end of May. Vernon told BBC Cornwall: "It's been a long winter, so it's great to get back to national racing. "It's going to be a really exciting year as the World Championships are in New Zealand." Vernon is joined in the double scull by Beth Rodford, with Katherine Grainger and Anna Watkins selected in the second British boat. The four will then combine to compete in the quadruple scull. Vernon, who won silver in the quadruple scull at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, added that although she has had a slow start to the year, her sights are firmly set on the World Championships in New Zealand. She said: "This year I came fourth in the trials which is not as good a result as I've had recently. "But it's all part of the building process as every internal trial that we do is just one step towards selection."
