TeamBath also beat the Hertfordshire side to win the 2009 final |
TeamBath secured an historic fourth Superleague title with a 51-44 win against Hertfordshire Mavericks. The University of Bath's netball team have now won four of the last five league crowns, beating the Mavericks on each occasion. Captain Pamela Cookey said:"It was an awesome performance. Our first quarter wasn't the best but everyone stepped up when it mattered. "Everyone was amazing, I feel so proud of them." TeamBath were five points down after the first period but fought back to go in 22-21 up at half-time. "It was the start we had anticipated with Mavericks coming out hard but we always knew we could claw that back during the course of the game," said head coach Jess Garland. "Mavericks started each quarter well and really applied the pressure, but our attack got more and more clinical as the game went on. TeamBath edged the third quarter 14-12 before extending their lead in the final period to run out winners by seven points. Goalkeeper Eboni Beckford-Chambers added: "We took a bit of time to adjust to what Mavericks were trying to do, but it was a great comeback. "We have got so many players who can play well in pressure situations and I didn't ever doubt us."
