LV COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Swalec Stadium: CLOSE OF PLAY, DAY ONE: Gloucestershire 303-5 Glamorgan 1pt, Glos 3pts Match scorecard
Gidman hit 13 fours and one six in his 172-ball 97 |
Alex Gidman and James Franklin both fell agonisingly short of centuries as Gloucestershire recovered from a poor start to reach 303-5 against Glamorgan. David Harrison (1-63) and Huw Waters (2-61) enjoyed early success to leave the visitors reeling on 27-3. But Gidman (97) and Franklin (95) produced dogged displays in a 115-stand as Glamorgan struggled to rediscover their early threat with the ball. Chris Taylor (43no) and Steven Snell (45no) then took the visitors past 300. Glamorgan began the day well as Waters trapped Jonathan Batty leg before wicket before Chris Dent fell in the same manner to Harrison. The home side were then convinced they had removed Gidman courtesy of an edge to Jim Allenby at first slip but umpires George Sharp and Stephen Gale ruled the ball had not carried. Gidman capitalised on that decision as he and Franklin constructed a potentially game-changing partnership. But for the second time in as many games Gidman could not make it out of the 90s, falling lbw to Allenby. Franklin suffered the same frustrations when he was caught behind off Dean Cosker. However, Snell and Taylor continued Gloucestershire's progress to leave them in a strong position at the end of play.
