Team Bath will supply seven of the 12 players in the England squad for the World Youth Netball championships. Superleague winners Eboni Beckford-Chambers and Serena Guthrie will be the team's captain and vice-captain. "Playing for your country is one thing, but being made captain, I am absolutely privileged," said Beckford-Chambers. The Under-21 event is to be held in the Cook Islands in August and former Team Bath players and coaches Jess Garland and Anna Mayes will lead the squad. Kirsty Delves, Monique Wood, Stacey Francis, Sam Perry and Rosie Allison are the other Team Bath players who have made the England team sheet after a season-long selection process. | Everything now is about building on what we know and making our strengths even stronger England coach Jess Garland |
The squad has been training in the hydrotherapy pool zone at the University of Bath's Sports Training Village as well as wearing sweat vests to prepare for the heat and the humidity. Garland said: "Anna and I believe tremendously in the abilities of the team we have selected. Everything now is about building on what we know and making our strengths even stronger." The competition, which starts on Monday, 10 August, includes 20 teams and England will start in a pool with the hosts, Malaysia, Wales, and Vanuatu.
