England's bid for tri-series glory ended as they lost the tournament decider 47-40 to Australia in London. The hosts went into the game on a high after their first win over world champions New Zealand in 32 years in their opening match of the tournament.
But Australia showed the form that also earned them victory over the Silver Ferns to win the tournament outright.
In the other game of the night, New Zealand beat England A 66-42 to claim third spot in the four-team event.
England, currently ranked fourth in the world, will take heart from their performance, which saw them lead 12-9 after the first quarter and level 22-22 at half-time.
With the World Championships in New Zealand less than six months away, England's preparations look to be moving in the right direction, after their defeat of the top-ranked Silver Ferns in Manchester last Sunday.
