Weaver has one more year left on his current deal with Blaze |
Coventry Blaze will bounce back and challenge for trophies next season, according to captain Jonathan Weaver. Blaze have arguably endured their worst campaign under Paul Thompson to date, finishing without any silverware. "Thommo has a record of turning things around. None of us is happy with how things went this season," said Weaver. "It has been hugely disappointing but I know Thommo is already well adanced in putting his plans in place for next year," he added. Blaze have won four Elite League titles in the last eight years and have previously tasted success in the play-offs, Challenge Cup and British Knockout Cup. | [Paul Thompson] will put together a team which will hopefully challenge for silverware next year and give our owners and fans a bit more to be happy about |
But this season Coventry finished sixth in the league, bowed out of the play-offs at the quarter-finals stage and did not do well in either of the cup competitions. The club will be without the experienced heads of Dan Carlson and Jason Robinson next term, both having recently announced their retirements. Speaking about his head coach, Weaver added: "He won't accept and take what has happened this year lightly. It has been massively disappointing for all concerned. "But Thommo will put together a team which will hopefully challenge for silverware next year and give our owners and fans a bit more to be happy about."
