Cardiff Devils stay in the Elite League title chase as their 2-1 penalty shoot-out win over Nottingham Panthers moved the Welsh club up to second. Stuart MacRae scored the penalty shoot-out winner as the Devils joined league leaders Sheffield Steelers on 83 points with just two fixtures remaining. David Clarke had given Nottingham the lead at the Cardiff Arena before Max Birbraer levelled in the first period. The games was tied at 1-1 after sudden-death overtime before MacRae's heroics. Jade Galbraith missed his sudden-death penalty shot for Nottingham but Canadian forward MacRae held his nerve to extend Cardiff's winning run to seven matches. The Devils, who also won 7-2 at Hull Stingrays on Saturday, will host Coventry Blaze on Saturday before their trip to Edinburgh Capitals on Sunday on the final weekend. Title rivals Sheffield, meanwhile, face Newcastle and Braehead on a potentially dramatic finale this weekend.
