Coach Paul Thompson says he will use Weaver more selectively |
Coventry Blaze captain Jonathan Weaver is to make his comeback from injury in their Elite League match against Edinburgh Capitals on Saturday. The Blaze take on the struggling Scottish side at the Skydome Arena in the first match of their double header. Head coach Paul Thompson says he will be more selective in how he uses the 34-year-old defenceman. He told BBC Coventry and Warwickshire: "He's been sorely missed and I want to cut down his penalty killing minutes." Thompson has been without the Great Britain international since early December with a knee injury. "He battles as hard as anybody, but his forte is his powerplay and his offensive side of the game. | I want to destroy Edinburgh. The predicament they're in is of no consequence to me Coventry Blaze head coach Paul Thompson |
"If we have to lose him for two minutes on a powerplay to get us through until we get other guys back then that's what we'll be doing. "So we'll be cutting down his minutes down in one area and adjusting them to where he excels." The champions take on bottom-placed Edinburgh Capital next as they look to continue the push for the play-offs. With the Blaze a disappointing sixth in the table, Thompson has no sympathy for their opponents. "I want to destroy Edinburgh," he said. "The predicament they're in is of no consequence to me. I don't care. I can only control Coventry Blaze and right now were the team that needs a boost. "We're the team that needs to get wins."
