Jason Robinson could stay on with Coventry Blaze

Coventry Blaze coach Paul Thompson hopes to persuade Canadian defenceman Jason Robinson to stay at the club until the end of the season.

Robinson could return to Canada at the end of the month, as he was originally drafted in as cover for the injured Jeff Smith.

Thompson said: "I hope he stays. He is a leader in the dressing room.

"Robbo has been a big help. When you are going through adversity, which we are, you need strong personalities."

Blaze have just the one victory to their name from their last seven Elite League outings as they have struggled to cope with a number of injuries.

Thompson aims to convince the 32-year-old to extend his second spell at the Skydome, having helped Coventry win the Elite League title last year.

"He knows how I work and what I expect, he has done us a massive favour by coming over to help us out and I would love it if he stayed until the end of the season.

"It's up to Robbo but I won't stop trying," added Thompson.

Meanwhile Finnish defenceman Antti Kohvakka has returned to Blaze's English National League side.
