Nottingham Panthers have signed ex-NHL first-round draft pick Daniel Tkaczuk. The 31-year-old centre has just left Dornbirn in Austria and joins Nottingham until the end of the season. Tkaczuk played 19 games in the NHL for Calgary Flames and played most of his career in the AHL before moving to play in Scandinavia, Italy and Germany. Coach Corey Neilson said: "He could be a perfect fit. We need a guy who can win the draw for us. A left-handed centre could make a big difference." He added: "I like just about everything I hear about Daniel. "His pedigree speaks for itself. When Jeff Heerema joined, people were scratching their heads trying to think if there'd ever been a higher draft pick come to our league. Jeff was an 11th pick overall - now we have Daniel, who was a sixth pick." Panthers hope to have Tzaczuk for the home Elite League fixture against Hull Stingrays on Saturday. Tzaczuk replaces Alex Penner, who left Panthers earlier in the month.
