The Stingrays have now beaten Dundee twice this season |
Hull Stingrays coach Sylvain Cloutier said he was pleased to secure a 2-1 win over Dundee in the Elite League but was unhappy with the level of performance. The Rays took maximum points from Wednesday's game after shootout goals by Jereme Tendler and Andrew Coburn. "A win is a win," Cloutier told BBC Radio Humberside. "But it was not our best display. "We looked tired in the first period but finally got going, found a way to win and it was a big two points." The Stingrays, who were without the injured duo of Lee Mitchell and Avars Gaisins, started the game in a tardy fashion and Dundee deserved the lead when Jon Dolan fired home following a two-on-one breakout in the 13th minute. The home equaliser came three minutes into the second period when Tendler notched his 28th goal of the season with a first-time slapshot with the Stingrays a man up on the powerplay. With both goalies, Christian Boucher for Hull and Ladislav Kudrna for Dundee, turning aside more than 30 shots apiece, neither side could force an outright winner and the result came down to a penalty shootout. The result means Hull have closed the gap on sixth-placed Braehead in the league standings. "It moves us four points behind Braehead and with four games in hand so it was important to win and for us to keep closing that gap," Cloutier added.
