Hull Stingrays forward Lee Mitchell to go under knife
Mitchell underwent knee surgery last season
Hull Stingrays forward Lee Mitchell will undergo surgery on a knee injury, reports BBC Radio Humberside.
The 23-year old missed the weekend wins over Sheffield Steelers and Nottingham Panthers after scans on the injury.
Mitchell told BBC Radio Humberside: "I had a scan last week and it came back that I've got a tear in the knee so I'm going to have to get surgery.
"I've been playing with it for 5 weeks. It takes me all week to recover so something needs to be done now."
The Scot, who represented Great Britain at last year's World Championships, has a history of knee problems having missed the first two months of last season following surgery.
Meanwhile, the Rays made it a four-point weekend with a 7-2 humiliation of Sheffield Steelers at the Hull Arena on Saturday followed up by a 5-4 shootout victory at Nottingham on Sunday.
And coach Sylvain Cloutier admitted it was a huge weekend for his team.
"We totally outworked and outplayed the Steelers.
"Then we spoke about the fact that if we didn't turn up and play against Nottingham it would mean nothing but the boys did a great job against them and it was another big win in overtime."
