Neilson's side had won nine league games in a row before losing to Cardiff |
Nottingham Panthers recovered from the disappointment of losing in a penalty shoot-out to Cardiff on Saturday with a comeback victory at Dundee on Sunday. Dundee went ahead in the first period on a breakaway but David Clarke levelled on a five-on-three powerplay and Jonathon Zion made it 2-1. Stars levelled in the third but Matthew Myers grabbed the winner. The win sealed a three-point weekend on the back of Saturday's agonising 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Cardiff. The result ended Nottingham's nine-match league winning run despite a brave comeback and an inspired display from goalie Craig Kowalksi. Panthers trailed 2-0 but goals from Ian McDonald and Billy Ryan brought them level at the end of normal time. Corey Neilson's side spurned a number of good chances, but the key man was once again Kowalksi, who made a string of superb saves to keep them in it. But the visitors won the shoot-out meaning a point for Panthers in the league and Challenge Cup standings, as the game counted in both competitions. Sunday's win leaves Panthers two points behind Elite League leaders Belfast but with a game in hand.
