Defenceman Blair Stayzer leaves Newcastle Vipers

Ice hockey

Newcastle Vipers have announced that Blair Stayzer has left the club and will return to north America.

The Canadian defenceman was coach Danny Stewart's first import signing of the summer and signed for the 2010/11 term.

But the club has now agreed to Stayzer's request to be released for personal reasons.

The 29-year-old, who was drafted in the NHL by Calgary in 1999, played for Fort Wayne Komets in the IHL before his move to England.
