Vipers led in the final period 3-2 but were pegged back to lose 4-3 overall

Newcastle Vipers were left to rue Jon Pelle's last minute winner in Wednesday's 4-3 defeat by Cardiff Devils in ice hockey's Elite League.

Both sides netted twice in the first period, Max Birbraer hitting a brace for the Devils, while Jamie Carroll and Dale Mahovsky replied for Vipers.

A goalless second period followed, before an action-packed final third.

Vipers took a first lead in the game through Patrik Forsbacka, but Scott Matzka and Pelle sealed it for Cardiff.
