Coventry Blaze took the scalp of Elite League leaders Belfast Giants with a 2-0 victory at the Skydome on Sunday.

Blaze bounced back from their 4-1 Challenge Cup drubbing at Sheffield the previous night to claim their first win over the Giants this season.

After a goalless opening period Brad Cruikshank put the home side ahead on the powerplay early in the second.

Brian Lee doubled the lead in the final period, with netminder Brett Jaeger completing a 35-shot shut out.

Blaze coach Paul Thompson was pleased with the result having demanded a response from his players following their poor showing in South Yorkshire.

He said: "We put some things on the board and made them tell us what they were going to bring to the game tonight.

"How many hits, what plays and what their mentality was going to be and we wrote them down.

"That's seven league games in a row that we've won and that's great form.

"But we cannot take that game for granted and must go into the Edinburgh game with that sort of attitude."

Coventry host Edinburgh Capitals on Wednesday, 27 October.
