Belfast Giants regrouped from Saturday's shootout defeat by Nottingham to edge out Cardiff Devils 4-3 in Sunday's Elite League clash. John Gleed and Mark Garside scored early Giants goals but Max Birbraer and Kenton Smith levelled for Cardiff before the end of the first period. Tim Cook restored Belfast's lead only for Gerad Adams to level but Gleed hit the Giants winner in the final period. Belfast suffered a 4-3 shootout defeat in Saturday's league opener. Cook and summer signing Mike Bayrack put the Giants 2-0 up in Saturday's contest in Nottingham but David Clark and David Beauregard notched powerplay goals to level. Matt Myers then put Nottingham ahead before Brett Hemingway levelled for the Giants late in the third period. Jade Galbraith's goal eventually sealed Nottingham's victory in the prolonged shootout although the Giants did earn a league point for being level at the end of normal time. Cardiff were beaten 5-1 by Sheffield Steelers in Saturday's other Elite League game. The Giants will look back to missed powerplay chances late in the third period of Saturday's game in Nottingham. The Giants' first home game of the season will be next Saturday when they face defending champions Coventry.
