New Nottingham Panthers signing Ian McDonald says he is keen to prove his worth in his first season in professional ice hockey.

The 25-year-old Canadian joins the Panthers after four years at the University of Alberta.

McDonald told BBC Radio Nottingham: "There is a little pressure but hopefully I can produce and show everyone that I was worth it.

"I heard Nottingham is a great place to live. I am excited by the opportunity."

McDonald's signing completed the forward line-up for next season and the 6ft 3ins forward explains what type of player Panthers' supporters should expect.

"I am pretty offensive guy and I like to carry the puck a lot. I'm big but I feel like I have pretty good skills and I am also a pretty good skater," he said.

"I don't think I am over-physical but I finish my checks. I feel like I will be pretty exciting for everyone to watch and set-up plays and score some goals hopefully.

"I am looking forward to a good summer training to get myself ready to playing a higher calibre of hockey."
