Coventry Blaze captain Adam Calder looks increasingly likely to leave the Elite League champions at the end of the season.

Calder has been at the Skydome for six years, but looks set to take up a player-coach role with Braehead Clan.

Earlier this month it was confirmed that the Glasgow side would compete in the Elite League next season.

Calder secured his seventh trophy with Blaze by scoring the title-winning goal in Edinburgh on Saturday.

The prolific forward, who turns 34 later this month, has 68 points to his name this season and Blaze coach Paul Thompson admits he would be sad to see Calder leave Coventry.

Once we go up against each other I'll want to beat him
Paul Thompson

Thompson told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "I don't know if a contract's been signed yet but he's been a phenomenal ambassador for this club and this city.

"He's the highest-ever Elite League points scorer and goal scorer. A class, class act.

"I won't stand in anyone's way especially someone who's put his heart and soul into this hockey club. He's been a leader and a captain.

"Once we go up against each other I'll want to beat him."

Coventry Blaze face Hull Stingrays in the quarter-finals of the play-offs. Blaze go to Humberside on Saturday (27 March) before hosting Stingrays the following evening.
