Nottingham Panthers coach Corey Neilson branded his side 'selfish' after their 5-4 home defeat by Newcastle.
Panthers' Elite League title hopes lie in tatters as they sit five points behind leaders Coventry who have three games in hand.
Newcastle scored twice in the last 90 seconds, after a Sean McAslan hat-trick had put Panthers 4-2 up.
Neilson told BBC Radio Nottingham: "It was just a little selfishness. I'm angry and very disappointed."
It was only Panthers' third home defeat of the season and the second time Newcastle have staged a comeback to win at the National Ice Centre.
Panthers were 2-0 down in the first session but scored the only goal of the second period through Sean McAslan.
Midway through the final session Panthers netted three times in just over a minute - Marty Gascon scoring one and McAslan grabbing two to complete his hat-trick.
But Vipers hit back immediately and then scored twice in the last 90 seconds to win the game.
"Normally we don't play like that," added Neilson.
"We are up two goals and I am putting them into a defensive system, and while I am doing that on the bench they get scored on from a couple of lost face-offs."
