Sheffield Steelers' Continental Cup final campaign ended in defeat by top seeds Yunost Minsk in Grenoble.
The Belarussian champions showed their superior quality in front of goal as they took a 1-0 lead in the first period and added three in the second.
The Steelers showed plenty of spirit in the third period and Matt Hubbauer scored a consolation.
Head coach Dave Matsos told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I don't think we played to win, we made some foolish mistakes."
Matsos continued: "I'm disappointed, we knew we were coming in against the odds. I've no problems with going into the dressing room and giving the players pats on the back if the odds beat us.
"It wasn't we were outfought, it was just breakdowns. We need to learn to tidy games up especially big games and we didn't again."
The Steelers won their opener in France, 5-2 against the hosts, but lost their second game 6-1 to Red Bull Salzburg.
