Jeff Szwez scored the Belfast Giants' first goal against Newcastle

The Belfast Giants' Elite League prospects received another blow when they fell to a disappointing defeat away to the Newcastle Vipers.

Jeff Szwez equalised for Belfast after Mike Berry had opened the scoring.

Another goal by Berry and one from Mark Rooneem had the Vipers 3-1 up before Craig Peacock netted for the Giants.

Matus Petricko scored early in the final period to send the Giants crashing to their third consecutive defeat in the league.

The sides meet again on Sunday night, this time at the Oddysey Arena in Belfast.

They last met there on 11 December when Belfast won 11-3.
