Meyers wants to protect his team-mates from criticism |
Nottingham Panthers defenceman Danny Meyers says that as captain, he should shoulder the blame for his side's deficiencies over the weekend. Panthers lost their Elite League lead following back-to-back defeats by Belfast, and were booed during the 4-0 defeat in Nottingham on Saturday. Meyers told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I understand the fans are angry. They should put it on my shoulders. "It's not good enough and I have to prepare my troops a lot better." Panthers slipped behind Coventry in the league standings following the shut-out, which in turn followed a 6-3 reverse in Belfast on Friday evening. Meyers added: "As captain, there are a lot of perks. If we were to win the Championship, then it looks good on me because I get to lift the trophy. "At the same time, when there's a loss, I have to take responsibility. If the fans need to vent their fury they should put it on my shoulders as opposed to any of my team mates."
