Panthers not good enough - Meyers

Danny Meyers
Meyers wants to protect his team-mates from criticism

Nottingham Panthers defenceman Danny Meyers says that as captain, he should shoulder the blame for his side's deficiencies over the weekend.

Panthers lost their Elite League lead following back-to-back defeats by Belfast, and were booed during the 4-0 defeat in Nottingham on Saturday.

Meyers told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I understand the fans are angry. They should put it on my shoulders.

"It's not good enough and I have to prepare my troops a lot better."

Panthers slipped behind Coventry in the league standings following the shut-out, which in turn followed a 6-3 reverse in Belfast on Friday evening.

Meyers added: "As captain, there are a lot of perks. If we were to win the Championship, then it looks good on me because I get to lift the trophy.

"At the same time, when there's a loss, I have to take responsibility. If the fans need to vent their fury they should put it on my shoulders as opposed to any of my team mates."
