Adam Calder scored against both Nottingham and Sheffield |
Coventry Blaze finished runners-up to Sheffield Steelers at the inaugural 20/20 Hockeyfest on Sunday. Blaze lost 3-2 to the hosts in the final having beaten Nottingham Panthers and Newcastle Vipers in the previous two rounds. Adam Calder netted in the final and told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire either team could have won the competition. "We had chances early on in the game and I have to give their goalie credit as he made some saves," he said. All the Elite league teams took part in a new format with all games played in two 20-minute running clock periods and each side only allowed to have four outskaters on the ice at any one time. | The guys gave it everything they could |
Blaze thrashed Nottingham Panthers 6-0 in the quarter-finals to set up a last-four tie against Newcastle Vipers. Paul Thompson's side needed a penalty shootout to overcome the north-east outfit 3-2 before missing out in the final. Calder added: "We're a little disappointed. It's been a long day and the guys gave it everything they could. "We played well. Everyone's had a full day of hockey so it's been a tiring day."
