Longmuir urges Vipers' caution

Newcastle Vipers general manager Jaimie Longmuir insists no one at the club is getting carried away despite a good start to their season.

The Vipers are second in the Elite League, just a point behind Nottingham, five games into the season.

"Whilst the start has been great, there is no one within the organisation who is getting carried away," Longmuir told the club's website.

"It's still very early days in the campaign with a very long way to go."

Newcastle began their season picking up three points out of four in two home matches against Cardiff and followed that up with victory over Nottingham.

Defeat on-the-road against the Panthers was followed by a 2-0 shut-out of Belfast on home ice, to give the Vipers seven points from five matches.

"We must continue to work hard and give 100% effort and hard work each and every night," added Longmuir.

"The club has enjoyed a terrific start to the season on the ice and the players have delivered some excellent results.

"More importantly for the organisation they have delivered a brand of hockey which has certainly been full of passion, excitement and entertainment.

"This is a very different squad to what we have seen in the past and the players and coach Rob Wilson deserve a lot of credit for the way they have started the season."

Newcastle have back-to-back home matches this weekend. They host Coventry on Saturday (1830 BST), while Sheffield visit the Newcastle Arena on Sunday (1730 BST).
