Chris Swailes wasted the best chance of the night as struggling Gateshead were held to a goalless draw by in-form Rushden & Diamonds.
Swailes headed wide from a corner six yards out after both sides had struggled to create clear-cut chances.
Gateshead midfielder Kris Gate had the best opportunity of a drab first half, firing over from the edge of the area.
Craig Farrell then went close for Diamonds when he smashed a Kurt Robinson cross at keeper Paul Farman.

Lee Tomlin twice shot over from long range in the dying minutes as Diamonds looked for a late winner but both sides were forced to settle for a point.
