Wilson led Newcastle to Elite League play-off glory three years ago |
Newcastle Vipers coach Rob Wilson is to continue in his role for a fourth term. The Canadian was contemplating a move away from the Vipers to gain experience in Europe but has turned down interest from Austria, Germany and Switzerland. He said: "I've done a lot of thinking over the last few weeks and have looked at various options. "I always wanted to stay, but to get attention from Europe was flattering. I've already shortlisted some players and talked to quite a few already." He continued: "I will now start detailed talks with the players I want to bring in. We hope to have one or two deals tied up within the next seven to 10 days which we will be able to announce as soon as negotiations conclude." | Last season was disappointing for everyone so we are looking to learn lessons from this and make the necessary changes to drive things forward Newcastle Vipers coach Rob Wilson |
Wilson, who won the Elite League play-offs and finished runner-up in the league with the Vipers in 2006, says he has learned a lot from the last three years since that success. "I know fans hear it a lot about how we want to change but it is something that is happening right throughout the organisation, from the backroom staff to the structure of the club, everything is changing and the on-ice personnel will be no different," he said. "Last season was disappointing for everyone so we are looking to learn lessons from this and make the necessary changes to drive things forward for the benefit of the club."
