There was great excitement in Cardiff as a Devils side missing no fewer than four key players through suspension beat Sheffield 6-5 in overtime. Steelers won the opening period 3-2, but Devils hit back to lead by 5-4 at the second break. The home side appeared to be holding on before a powerplay strike by Jeff Legue with 48 seconds to go secured overtime. Nearly three minutes into the extra period Phil Hill grabbed the winner amid joyous scenes in he home barn.
