Newcastle Vipers suffered play-off heartbreak following a 4-2 home defeat by Coventry Blaze in the quarter-finals on Sunday to lose 6-4 overall. Vipers grabbed a 2-2 draw in the Midlands on Saturday, and things looked to be going well when Chris McAllister gave the hosts the lead. Blaze levelled and then went ahead before Ben Campbell netted for Vipers. But Vipers were stunned when late goals from Sylvain Deschatelets and Barrie Moore ended their play-off hopes.
