Neilson's side are second in the Elite League table |
Nottingham Panthers coach Corey Neilson has spoken of his pride as his injury-hit side gained a point at Elite League leaders Sheffield Steelers. Panthers, already without David Clarke and Danny Meyers, picked up injuries to Matthew Myers and Dan Tessier in the penalty shot defeat. Neilson told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I'm tremendously proud of the effort they put in. They did everything they could. "I don't hand out compliments very often, but I'm so proud of the club." Panthers had led 2-1 in Sheffield thanks to two goals from Jade Galbraith, but Steelers hit back to lead 3-2 going into the final session. Brendan Cook netted short-handed after a pass from Bruce Richardson to take the game to overtime and penalties. Both sides had nine efforts each with Robert Dowd scoring the winner to secure the extra point for the home side. Neilson added: "We pride ourselves on our conditioning and our depth. "When you lose four of your best players and compete against the leaders, it goes to show what a good team we have."
